Can things really be that bad for Nissan?

Fine print is that it is a 24-month lease of a Rogue is included with financing a Leaf purchase (if you have top-notch credit). Very few people that actually buy Nissans these days would ever qualify for this one.

Well, that’s a little different. Still, though, is that a free 24 month lease?

*Retail purchase of any 2016 Nissan Leaf from dealer stock at M.S.R.P. 0% APR available for up to 72 months. Leaf purchase must be financed through NMAC to qualify for BOGO Sales Event. 24 month lease of new Nissan Rogue at no additional cost, 12k mi / yr. lease. Plates, fuel, maintenance and taxes extra. W.A.C. must qualify for terms of financing / lease for each vehicle. Dealer retains all rebates / incentives. **All persons considering use of available incentives should consult with their own tax professional to determine eligibility, specific amount of benefit available, if any, and further details.
The devil is in the details. Buy the leaf at full price and, and you get a 24 month lease on the house. I imagine there are significant rebates on the leaf which the customer gives up on this deal.
Also msrp on a leaf is $2000 over invoice, you throw in a couple of $1000 rebates that the customer doesn’t get, it’s less and less of a good deal. Let’s also think about all of the rebates and dealer cash on a 2015 Rouge. You could probably set this up for yourself, and come out ahead. Buying a leaf for bottom dollar and then leasing a rouge for bottom dollar
The dealership is likely making money on this deal and getting rid of unwanted inventory.

Yeah who pays sticker price for a Leaf?

I’d only pay the price of the sticker. That’s like 10 cents.

They pay the lease, but you must qualify for it. It’s actually really crazy, but this is a leftover 2015 Rogue from their lot included with a new 2016 Leaf. Nissan quotes $360/month for a lease of that length with those terms, but I’m sure there’s some trickery here. It’ll probably amount to a rough $5k discount and guarantees that the buyer returns later to drop off (and likely either buy or lease another car) in 24 months. That’s why dealers also do “lifetime oil changes” among other crazy schemes - get the person back in to remind them you exist and potentially sell them another car.

But you’d have to pay MSRP on that Leaf. You’d have to calculate what kind of discount you could normally get on a Leaf. 24 month lease on a Rogue is worth maybe $300/mo? That would be $7200. Now, if they wanna be sheisty (and let’s be honest, they’re a dealer), they’ll say it is for the Rogue Select (aka, the previous generation Rogue they’re still selling as new). Best lease deal on that is $199/mo, which is $4776.
